Carpentry Managed Apprenticeship L4 Programme

Graduates Gain:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry Level 4
  • The trade qualification in Carpentry

When you finish the programme you will have the necessary entry requirements to apply for the Carpentry class of the Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) scheme.

 

Entry Criteria:

  • 16 years or older
  • a New Zealand Citizen or permanent resident
  • physically able to complete construction works activities
  • have a reasonable level of English and maths

Note: Students with English as a second language are responsible for producing evidence they have achieved IELTS (or NZQA recognized equivalent) 5.5 in General Training Reading and General Training Writing.

About This Programme

  • This is a 4 year full time programme
  • Free programme (fully funded by TEC)
  • You will be an apprentice for the duration of your training working on construction sites specified by your employer
  • You will be earning a wage
  • You will be assigned an Apprenticeship Coordinator by G&H who will assist you with your studies and visit you regularly (generally monthly)

 


 

Course Content

Gain the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to be able to:

  • Carry out assigned carpentry work to an acceptable industry standard without supervision
  • Build a two storey residential dwelling that complies with current Regulations and Codes including:
    • Setting out a building site
    • Constructing sub-floor and flooring in concrete or timber
    • Building and erecting wall and roof framing (trusses are not built as part of this programme)
    • Installing exterior weather tight wall linings, windows and doors
    • Installing long run roofing
    • Completing interior linings, hardware and joinery
    • Carrying out additions and alterations
